Fair Elections Toronto was founded in April 2011 in response to what we believed was non-compliance on the part of many politicians with the law that governs Toronto’s local elections, Ontario’s Municipal Elections Act. In all, FET successfully applied for audits of the election campaign finances of five candidates for Toronto City Council, of which one order is currently under appeal. FET is a non-partisan, not-for-profit organization.
This web site provides updates on ongoing audits, audit applications and related legal proceedings to increase public awareness about municipal election finance issues and encourage other citizens in Toronto and beyond to hold their politicians accountable.
Fair Elections Toronto is co-directed by Max Reed and Adam Chaleff-Freudenthaler.
In addition to the work of approximately 20 volunteers, Fair Elections Toronto is and has been supported by a team of talented and dedicated lawyers providing their services pro bono. Those lawyers include Rob Centa, Nini Jones and Jodi Martin of Paliare Roland; Paul-Erik Veel and Jon Laxer of Lenczner Slaght; Heidi Rubin and Adrienne Lei of Dewart Gleason; Peter Rosenthal of Roach Schwartz; and Eric van Eyken.
